Why a Border Wall is a Dumb Idea

At least in this part of Texas, anyway...

We already have one, and I've been taking pictures of it for years. It happens to be in Mexico, is 1500 feet high, made of solid granite and is covered in mountain lions and Mojave rattlesnakes. The small mesquite trees in the foreground line the Rio Grande, which happens to be about a 90-second walk from my front door.

These mountains are fascinating to watch because they change colors and moods like a living being, and every time I see them differently, I take another picture. The first six photos were taken from my driveway, looking west. One day, as I was perusing my collection of pictures, I remembered that the French artist Paul Cezanne had done the same thing a century ago when he was living in front of a mountain. It was this same fascination with the constantly changing colors that inspired him to paint Mont Saint-Victoire over and over and over again during a period of several years. The last five pictures are of his paintings.
